Theme Installation

After purchasing the Simple Grid PRO WordPress Theme, you'll receive a download link via email. Check your email inbox (or spam folder) for the product delivery email. Click the provided download link to download the theme's .zip file to your computer. Follow one of a method given below to install the theme on your website.

Upgrading from the Free Simple Grid Theme?

Simple Grid PRO is a separate theme. Whether or not you're currently using the free Simple Grid theme, you need to install Simple Grid PRO using one of the methods below.

If you're upgrading from the free version, most of your existing WordPress Customizer settings will remain in place. So you don't need to reconfigure everything from scratch. However, you will need to reupload a few images and reapply specific color settings.

After activating Simple Grid PRO, go to Appearance → Customize and reupload the following:

Site Logo
Site Icon (favicon)
Header Image
Background Image

If you changed below color options in the free version, reapply them in Appearance → Customize → Theme Options → Colors:

Header Text Color
Background Color

Tip: You can install PRO without deleting the free theme. Use Live Preview to confirm your layout, then click Activate & Publish.

Method 1: Install Using the WordPress Dashboard (Easiest and Fastest)

This is the easiest and fastest method to install this WordPress theme.

Go to "WordPress Dashboard" → "Appearance" → "Themes" and click on "Add New" button.
Click on "Upload Theme" button and choose the zip file you have downloaded.
Click on "Install Now" button.
Activate the theme.
Now go to "Appearance" → "Customize" to configure theme options.

Method 2: Install using cPanel File Manager

In some cases, you may not be able to install a WordPress theme through the WordPress dashboard—especially if the theme's ZIP file exceeds the maximum upload size limit. When this happens, you can install the theme using cPanel's File Manager, which is often simpler than using FTP. Follow the steps below to install your theme via the File Manager in cPanel.

Log in to your cPanel account. Your cPanel URL will be https://yourdomain.com/cpanel or a similar URL.
Click on the "File Manager" icon. It's usually under the "Files" section.

You are now in the "File Manager". Open the public_html folder, which is your website's root directory.
Locate the wp-content folder inside "public_html," then open the themes folder inside of it.
In the File Manager interface, click the "Upload" button and choose the theme's .zip file from your local drive.
After it has been uploaded, right-click the .zip file and choose "Extract" or "Unzip".
You can now delete the uploaded .zip file, but it's optional.
Log in to your WordPress dashboard through your web browser.
Go to Appearance → Themes. Now you will see the newly extracted theme.
Make it your active theme by clicking the "Activate" button next to it.

Note: If your hosting provider doesn't offer cPanel, look for a File Manager option in your hosting dashboard (like DirectAdmin, Plesk, or CyberPanel). The process is usually very similar—just find the wp-content/themes folder and upload/extract the theme ZIP file there.

Method 3: Install using FTP

Installing a WordPress theme via FTP is straightforward, though it involves a few more steps compared to using the built-in theme uploader. Here's how to install a WordPress theme using FTP:

Unzip the theme's .zip file you have downloaded.
Connect to your hosting account using an FTP client such as "FileZilla" or "Core FTP".
Navigate to the /wp-content/themes folder in the "Remote site" section.
In the "Local site" section, locate the unzipped theme folder.
Drag and drop the unzipped theme folder from the "Local site" section to the "Remote site" section.
Be patient and let the transfer finish.
Once the transfer is complete, log in to your WordPress dashboard and navigate to Appearance > Themes.
Find the theme you just uploaded and click Activate.

Troubleshooting Tips

Didn't receive the download email? Wait 5–10 minutes or check your spam/junk folder. But if you still can not find this email or download link is broken, please inform us. we will send it ASAP.
"The uploaded file exceeds the upload_max_filesize directive in php.ini." - If you get this error when following the "Method 1", follow this tutorial: https://themesdna.com/blog/increase-maximum-file-upload-size-wordpress/
My menus disappeared or look different. Go to Appearance → Menus → Manage Locations and reassign your menus to the correct locations.
My header text or background color looks different after activating PRO. Reapply your colors in Appearance → Customize → Theme Options → Colors for Header Text Color and Background Color. Then publish.

Import Demo Content

You can import the demo content, widgets, and Customizer settings shown in the Simple Grid PRO theme demo.

Manual Demo Import

Step 1: Import Main Site Content

This includes: Posts, pages, menus, media, categories, tags, comments, and custom fields.

Download: XML File
Go to Tools → Import.
Under "WordPress", click Install Now if not installed.
Click Run Importer.
Select the XML file and click Upload file and import.
Check "Download and import file attachments", click Submit.

Step 2: Import Widgets

Install the Widget Importer & Exporter plugin.
Go to Tools → Widget Importer & Exporter.
Copy content from: Widgets .wie File and paste into the box.
Click Import Widgets.

Step 3: Import Customizer Settings

Download: Customizer File
Install the Customizer Export/Import plugin.
Go to Appearance → Customize → Export/Import.
Select the .dat file, check "Download and import image files?", click Import.

Regenerate Thumbnails

If your website already has existing posts with featured images, it's highly recommended to regenerate thumbnails after activating the Simple Grid PRO theme. This ensures that all images match the new theme's layout and display sizes.

Regenerating thumbnails is optional if your site is completely new and doesn't have any uploaded images yet.

However, if you imported the demo content, regenerating thumbnails is essential to display images correctly across the site.

Install and activate the Regenerate Thumbnails plugin.
Go to Tools → Regenerate Thumbnails.
Click the "Regenerate Thumbnails for All x Attachments" button to start the process.
Wait until all images are regenerated. This may take a few minutes depending on your media library size.
If you want, you can deactivate and delete the plugin once the process is complete.

This step ensures clean image alignment and sharp visuals throughout your website using the Simple Grid PRO theme.

Header Image

Quick Start Guide

Simple Grid PRO allows you to upload a site-wide custom header image with custom title and description. You can also upload a unique header image for each post/page, replacing the site-wide header image.

How to Add a Header Image?

There are 3 types of header images:

Site-wide Header Image: Appearance → Customize → Theme Options → Header Image
Post Header Image: Post Edit Screen → "Post Settings - Simple Grid PRO" Meta Box → Site Header Image
Page Header Image: Page Edit Screen → "Page Settings - Simple Grid PRO" Meta Box → Site Header Image

How to Add a Site-wide Header Image?

The site-wide header image is displayed everywhere. If you add a header image to a specific post/page, it will override the site-wide image.

Go to Appearance → Customize → Theme Options → Header Image
Upload your header image using Add new image button.

How to Add a Header Image to a Post?

Go to the edit screen of that post.
Find the Post Settings - Simple Grid PRO meta box.
Upload an image using Site Header Image option.

How to Add a Header Image to a Page?

Go to the edit screen of that page.
Find the Page Settings - Simple Grid PRO meta box.
Upload an image using Site Header Image option.

How to Add a Custom Title/Description to Header Image?

By default, the theme displays your website's title as the header image title and the tagline as the description. You can replace both with custom values.

First, enable custom header image title/description sitewide: Go to Appearance → Customize → Theme Options → Header Image and check Add Custom Title/Custom Description to Header Image.

Add Custom Title/Description to Site-wide Header Image:

Go to Appearance → Customize → Theme Options → Header Image
Add your title to Header Image Custom Title.
Add your description to Header Image Custom Description.
Save settings.

Add Custom Title/Description to a Post's Header Image:

Go to the edit screen of that post.
Find the Post Settings - Simple Grid PRO meta box.
Use Site Header Image Title and Site Header Image Description.
Update the post.

Add Custom Title/Description to a Page's Header Image:

Go to the edit screen of that page.
Find the Page Settings - Simple Grid PRO meta box.
Use Site Header Image Title and Site Header Image Description.
Update the page.

How to Hide Title/Description from Header Image?

Go to Appearance → Customize → Theme Options → Header Image.
Check Hide both Title and Description from Header Image.
Save settings.

How to Change Linked URL of Header Image?

By default, the header image links to the home URL. You can change this through theme options.

Change Linked URL of Site-wide Header Image:

Go to Appearance → Customize → Theme Options → Header Image
Add your URL to Header Image Destination URL.
Save settings.

Change Linked URL of a Post's Header Image:

Go to the edit screen of that post.
Find the Post Settings - Simple Grid PRO meta box.
Use Site Header Image Destination URL.
Update the post.

Change Linked URL of a Page's Header Image:

Go to the edit screen of that page.
Find the Page Settings - Simple Grid PRO meta box.
Use Site Header Image Destination URL.
Update the page.

Navigation Menus

This theme includes two Display Locations for menus: Primary Menu and Secondary Menu.

Right after installing the theme, WordPress may display your existing pages as the default menu items in these locations. You can replace them with your own custom menus containing links, categories, pages, and more by following the steps below:

Go to Appearance → Menus and click the create a new menu link.
Enter a name for your menu in the Menu Name field.
Select a display location for your menu by checking one of the available options under Display location
Click the Create Menu button.
To add items to the menu, use the options in the left-hand column—select the pages, posts, categories, or tags you want, then click Add to Menu.
To create dropdown menus, simply drag and nest the submenu items beneath the parent menu item.
Once you've added your links, click the Save Menu button.

News Ticker

The News Ticker displays your posts in a smooth, horizontal scrolling format—perfect for highlighting breaking news, trending updates, or featured content. Fully customizable via the WordPress Customizer.

Step 1: Access the News Ticker Options

Go to WordPress Dashboard.
Navigate to Appearance → Customize.
Click on Theme Options → News Ticker Options.

Step 2: Enable the News Ticker

Check the Enable News Ticker checkbox.

Step 3: Choose Ticker Location

Tips

Use Posts by IDs to curate exactly which headlines appear.
Use Tag Posts or Category Posts for automated updates.

This widget displays advertisements or custom content between posts in the posts grid layout. It allows precise control over where and when the ad appears.

Usage Notes

Important: Only add this widget to the "Grid Ads Widgets" widget area.
The widget displays when the current post position matches your specified ad location.
Use responsive ad codes for proper display across screen sizes.

How to Assign a Custom Template:

Go to Pages or Posts → Add New or edit an existing one.
In Gutenberg: Click the Page/Post tab in the right sidebar and find the Template option.
In Classic Editor: Enable Page/Post Attributes via Screen Options, then use the Template dropdown.
Select the desired template and click Publish or Update.

How to Create a Featured Content Page

A Featured Content Page is a special type of page that displays featured post widgets instead of the content added via the page editor. With the MagPal PRO WordPress theme, you can create unlimited featured content pages. You can also set one of these pages as your homepage if you prefer.

Before creating a featured content page, please install and activate either the Widget Display Conditions or Widget Context plugin. These plugins allow you to assign widgets specifically to your featured content pages.

Note: This tutorial uses the Widget Display Conditions plugin. You may use any other plugin that offers similar functionality.

Step 1: Create a Featured Content Page

Go to WordPress Dashboard → Pages → Add New.
Give the page a title of your choice. In this example, we'll use "My Featured Content".
Look for the Template option:
- In Gutenberg: Make sure the right sidebar is visible. Then click the Page tab and scroll down to find the Template dropdown.
- In Classic Editor: Make sure the Page Attributes box is enabled via the Screen Options tab at the top right. Then, locate it in the right sidebar and use the Template dropdown.
Select the Featured Content template from the dropdown.
Click Publish. When you view this page, you'll see a blank area, ready for widgets.

Step 2: Add Widgets to the Page

Go to Appearance → Widgets. You will see several widget areas.

Use only the following areas to add widgets to your featured content page:
1. Top Full Width Widgets (Everywhere)
2. Above Content Widgets (Everywhere)
3. Below Content Widgets (Everywhere)
4. Bottom Full Width Widgets (Everywhere)

Drag and drop your desired widget into one of the above widget areas. If you are using the Widget Display Conditions plugin, you'll see a Display conditions button at the bottom of the widget settings. Click it.
Click the Add group button.
From the dropdown options, select the featured content page you created, then click Save.

Now, the widget will appear only on your featured content page.

You can repeat this process to add multiple widgets to the available widget areas. After adding your widgets, visit your featured content page to see them in action.

If you'd like to use your featured content page as your homepage, follow these steps:

How to Create a Contact Page

Step 1: Create the Page

Go to Pages → Add New.
Title it Contact Us.
Select the Contact Form template.
Click Publish.

Step 2: Set Email Address

Go to Appearance → Customize.
Open Theme Options → Page Templates Options.
Enter your email in Contact Form Email Address.
Click Publish.

Note: If you do not set the Contact Form Email Address, the form will not send emails.

How to Create a Sitemap Page

Go to Pages → Add New.
Title it Sitemap.
Select the Sitemap template.
Click Publish.

The sitemap automatically displays all Pages, Categories, Tags, Monthly Archives, and Authors.

How to Create a Site Authors Page

Go to Pages → Add New.
Title it Authors.
Select the Authors template.
Click Publish.

This page automatically lists all authors with avatars, bios, and links to their posts.

🌐 Translating the Theme

The theme includes a simple-grid-pro.pot file located in the /languages folder inside the theme directory. You can use this file to create translations in your own language using any of the following tools:

Poedit – Desktop translation editor (view tutorial)
Loco Translate – Translate the theme directly from your WordPress dashboard (view tutorial)

After translating, save your files as:

simple-grid-pro-[language_code].po
simple-grid-pro-[language_code].mo

Place them inside the /languages folder in the theme.

↔️ RTL Language Support

Will I lose my settings when updating?

No. All Customizer settings, post/page settings, and widget configurations are stored in the WordPress database and will persist after a theme update.

Yes. Simple Grid PRO includes built-in WooCommerce support with product gallery zoom, lightbox, and slider features.

How do I set up a static homepage?

Go to Settings → Reading, select "A static page", choose your homepage and posts page, then save.

Can I use different layouts for different posts/pages?

Yes. Each post and page has its own settings panel where you can override the global layout style, header style, footer columns, and more.

How do I add ads between grid posts?

Use the Simple Grid Grid Ads Widget. Add it to the Grid Ads Widgets widget area and configure the position and display conditions.

How do I enable infinite scroll?

Go to Appearance → Customize → Theme Options → Posts Navigation Options and select the infinite scroll option.

Troubleshooting

Theme looks different from the demo

Make sure you've imported the demo content, widgets, and Customizer settings as described in Section 3. Also regenerate thumbnails as described in Section 4.

Featured images are blurry or cropped incorrectly

Regenerate thumbnails using the Regenerate Thumbnails plugin. Ensure your original images are large enough for the selected thumbnail size.

Widgets not appearing

Check that you've added widgets to the correct widget area. Some widget areas only display on specific pages (e.g., "Default HomePage" areas only show on the default blog homepage). Use the Widget Display Conditions plugin for more control.

News ticker not showing

Ensure the news ticker is enabled in Appearance → Customize → Theme Options → News Ticker Options. Also verify you have published posts available for the selected post type.

Contact form not sending emails

Set the Contact Form Email Address in Appearance → Customize → Theme Options → Page Templates Options. Also ensure your hosting supports PHP mail function.

Grid Ads not displaying

Make sure the Simple Grid Grid Ads Widget is added to the Grid Ads Widgets widget area (not any other area). Check that the ad position and display conditions match your current page.
