Introduction

HotWP PRO is a powerful and elegant, responsive/mobile-friendly, easy-to-use, 3-column magazine blogging WordPress theme developed by ThemesDNA. It features 10 different post styles, 11 layout options, 3 header styles, a featured posts slider (OwlCarousel2), a news ticker, 17 featured posts widget styles, a tabbed widget, social widget, about me widget, social sharing buttons, social profile links, WooCommerce compatibility, customizable colors and fonts, sticky menus, sticky sidebars, 728×90 header banner area, 4-column footer widget area, related posts, author bio boxes, and much more.

Additional features include a built-in contact form page template, sitemap page template, authors page template, 27 bundled page and post templates for various sidebar layouts, scroll-to-top button, site loading animation, and a multitude of widget areas. Theme Installation

After purchasing the HotWP PRO WordPress Theme, you'll receive a download link via email. Check your email inbox (or spam folder) for the product delivery email. Click the provided download link to download the theme's .zip file to your computer. Follow one of a method given below to install the theme on your website.

Upgrading from the Free HotWP Theme?

HotWP PRO is a separate theme. Whether or not you're currently using the free HotWP theme, you need to install HotWP PRO using one of the methods below.

If you're upgrading from the free version, most of your existing WordPress Customizer settings will remain in place. So you don't need to reconfigure everything from scratch. However, you will need to reupload a few images and reapply specific color settings.

After activating HotWP PRO, go to Appearance → Customize and reupload the following:

Site Logo
Site Icon (favicon)
Header Image
Background Image

If you changed below color options in the free version, reapply them in Appearance → Customize → Theme Options → Colors:

Background Color

Tip: You can install PRO without deleting the free theme. Use Live Preview to confirm your layout, then click Activate & Publish.

Method 1: Install Using the WordPress Dashboard (Easiest and Fastest)

This is the easiest and fastest method to install this WordPress theme.

Go to "WordPress Dashboard" → "Appearance" → "Themes" and click on "Add New" button.
Click on "Upload Theme" button and choose the zip file you have downloaded.
Click on "Install Now" button.
Activate the theme.
Now go to "Appearance" → "Customize" to configure theme options.

Method 2: Install using cPanel File Manager

In some cases, you may not be able to install a WordPress theme through the WordPress dashboard—especially if the theme's ZIP file exceeds the maximum upload size limit. When this happens, you can install the theme using cPanel's File Manager, which is often simpler than using FTP. Follow the steps below to install your theme via the File Manager in cPanel.

Log in to your cPanel account. Your cPanel URL will be https://yourdomain.com/cpanel or a similar URL.
Click on the "File Manager" icon. It's usually under the "Files" section.

You are now in the "File Manager". Open the public_html folder, which is your website's root directory.
Locate the wp-content folder inside "public_html," then open the themes folder inside of it.
In the File Manager interface, click the "Upload" button and choose the theme's .zip file from your local drive.
After it has been uploaded, right-click the .zip file and choose "Extract" or "Unzip".
You can now delete the uploaded .zip file, but it's optional.
Log in to your WordPress dashboard through your web browser.
Go to Appearance → Themes. Now you will see the newly extracted theme.
Make it your active theme by clicking the "Activate" button next to it.

Note: If your hosting provider doesn't offer cPanel, look for a File Manager option in your hosting dashboard (like DirectAdmin, Plesk, or CyberPanel). The process is usually very similar—just find the wp-content/themes folder and upload/extract the theme ZIP file there.

Method 3: Install using FTP

Installing a WordPress theme via FTP is straightforward, though it involves a few more steps compared to using the built-in theme uploader. Here's how to install a WordPress theme using FTP:

Unzip the theme's .zip file you have downloaded.
Connect to your hosting account using an FTP client such as "FileZilla" or "Core FTP".
Navigate to the /wp-content/themes folder in the "Remote site" section.
In the "Local site" section, locate the unzipped theme folder.
Drag and drop the unzipped theme folder from the "Local site" section to the "Remote site" section.
Be patient and let the transfer finish.
Once the transfer is complete, log in to your WordPress dashboard and navigate to Appearance > Themes.
Find the theme you just uploaded and click Activate.

Troubleshooting Tips

Didn't receive the download email? Wait 5–10 minutes or check your spam/junk folder. But if you still can not find this email or download link is broken, please inform us. we will send it ASAP.
"The uploaded file exceeds the upload_max_filesize directive in php.ini." - If you get this error when following the "Method 1", follow this tutorial: https://themesdna.com/blog/increase-maximum-file-upload-size-wordpress/
My menus disappeared or look different. Go to Appearance → Menus → Manage Locations and reassign your menus to the correct locations.
My header text or background color looks different after activating PRO. Reapply your colors in Appearance → Customize → Theme Options → Colors for Header Text Color and Background Color. Then publish.

Import Demo Content

You can import the demo content, widgets, and Customizer settings shown in the HotWP PRO theme demo.

Manual Demo Import

Step 1: Import Main Site Content

This includes: Posts, pages, menus, media, categories, tags, comments, and custom fields.

Download: XML File
Go to Tools → Import.
Under "WordPress", click Install Now if not installed.
Click Run Importer.
Select the XML file and click Upload file and import.
Check "Download and import file attachments", click Submit.

Step 2: Import Widgets

Install the Widget Importer & Exporter plugin.
Go to Tools → Widget Importer & Exporter.
Copy content from: Widgets .wie File and paste into the box.
Click Import Widgets.

Step 3: Import Customizer Settings

Download: Customizer File
Install the Customizer Export/Import plugin.
Go to Appearance → Customize → Export/Import.
Select the .dat file, check "Download and import image files?", click Import.

Regenerate Thumbnails

If your website already has existing posts with featured images, it's highly recommended to regenerate thumbnails after activating the HotWP PRO theme. This ensures that all images match the new theme's layout and display sizes.

Regenerating thumbnails is optional if your site is completely new and doesn't have any uploaded images yet.

However, if you imported the demo content, regenerating thumbnails is essential to display images correctly across the site.

Install and activate the Regenerate Thumbnails plugin.
Go to Tools → Regenerate Thumbnails.
Click the "Regenerate Thumbnails for All x Attachments" button to start the process.
Wait until all images are regenerated. This may take a few minutes depending on your media library size.
If you want, you can deactivate and delete the plugin once the process is complete.

This step ensures clean image alignment and sharp visuals throughout your website using the HotWP PRO theme.

Header Image

HotWP PRO allows you to upload a site-wide custom header image. The recommended dimensions are 1250 × 200 pixels (flexible height). The header image automatically links to your homepage; site title/description or logo display separately and can be hidden via Appearance → Customize → Theme Options → Header Options → Hide Header Content if needed.

How to Add a Header Image

Go to Appearance → Customize → Header Image.
Click Add new image and upload your header image.

Navigation Menus

This theme includes two Display Locations for menus: Primary Menu and Secondary Menu.

Right after installing the theme, WordPress may display your existing pages as the default menu items in these locations. You can replace them with your own custom menus containing links, categories, pages, and more by following the steps below:

Go to Appearance → Menus and click the create a new menu link.
Enter a name for your menu in the Menu Name field.
Select a display location for your menu by checking one of the available options under Display location
Click the Create Menu button.
To add items to the menu, use the options in the left-hand column—select the pages, posts, categories, or tags you want, then click Add to Menu.
To create dropdown menus, simply drag and nest the submenu items beneath the parent menu item.
Once you've added your links, click the Save Menu button.

News Ticker

The News Ticker displays your posts in a smooth, horizontal scrolling format at the top of your site. It's perfect for highlighting breaking news or trending updates.

How to Configure

Go to Appearance → Customize → Theme Options → News Ticker.
Check Enable News Ticker.
Set a custom News Ticker Heading (default: "Breaking News").
Choose the Number of News Ticker Posts (default: 5).
Select the Posts Type: Recent Posts, Popular Posts, Random Posts, Category Posts, or Tag Posts.
If using Category/Tag Posts, select the relevant category or tag.
Click Publish.

Quick Start Guide

Navigate to Appearance → Widgets to see available widgets and widget areas. HotWP PRO includes 20 custom widgets that must be enabled in Appearance → Customize → Theme Options → Custom Widgets before they appear.

HotWP Featured Posts Widgets (17 Styles)

HotWP PRO includes 17 different featured posts widget styles, each with a unique layout. Posts can be filtered by recent, category, tag, popular (by comments), or random.

How to Enable

Go to Appearance → Customize → Theme Options → Custom Widgets.
Check the box next to the widget(s) you want to enable.
Click Publish, then go to Appearance → Widgets to use them.

HotWP Tabbed Widget

Displays three separate tabs of posts in a tabbed interface. Each tab can be configured independently with different content sources, sort options, and display elements.

How to Enable

Go to Appearance → Customize → Theme Options → Custom Widgets.
Check Enable Tabbed Widget, then Publish.

How to Assign a Template

Edit a page or post.
Find the Template option:
- Gutenberg: Click the Page/Post tab in the right sidebar and find Template.
- Classic Editor: Enable Page/Post Attributes via Screen Options, then use the Template dropdown.
Select the desired template and click Publish/Update.

How to Create a Contact Page

Step 1: Create the Page

Go to Pages → Add New. Title it "Contact Us".
Select the Contact Form template.
Click Publish.

Step 2: Set the Email Address

Go to Appearance → Customize → Theme Options → Contact Page.
Enter your email in Contact Form Email Address.
Click Publish.

Note: Without setting the email address, the form will not send messages.

How to Create a Sitemap Page

Go to Pages → Add New. Title it "Sitemap".
Select the Sitemap template.
Click Publish.

The sitemap auto-generates and shows all pages, categories, tags, monthly archives, and authors.

How to Create a Site Authors Page

Step 1: Create the Page

Go to Pages → Add New. Title it "Our Authors".
Select the Site Authors template.
Click Publish.

Step 2: Customize (Optional)

Go to Appearance → Customize → Theme Options → Authors Page.
Toggle: Hide administrators / Hide authors with zero posts.

Why is my logo/site icon/header image/background image missing after upgrading to PRO?

When switching from free to PRO, you need to manually reupload your Site Logo, Header Image, Site Icon, and Background Image via Appearance → Customize.

My menus disappeared after theme activation. What should I do?

Go to Appearance → Menus → Manage Locations and reassign your existing menus to the correct theme locations.

How do I add numbered posts navigation?

Install and activate the WP-PageNavi plugin. It automatically integrates with HotWP PRO.

How do I reset Customizer settings to default?

Go to Appearance → Customize → Theme Options → Reset Settings and click the Reset Theme Options button.

How do I enable the featured posts slider?

Go to Appearance → Customize → Theme Options → Slider and check Enable Slider.

How do I enable the news ticker?

Post thumbnails are missing when sharing on social media

Install an SEO plugin like Yoast SEO or Rank Math and enable Open Graph tags. Always set a featured image for each post.

I get "The uploaded file exceeds the upload_max_filesize directive" error

Your hosting has a small file upload limit. Follow this guide to increase it, or use cPanel/FTP to upload the theme.

Custom widgets are not showing in the widget list

Custom widgets must be enabled first. Go to Appearance → Customize → Theme Options → Custom Widgets and check the widgets you want to activate.

Slider is not showing on the homepage

Make sure the slider is enabled in Theme Options → Slider and that the posts you want to show have Featured Images set.
