Introduction

GreatWP PRO is a clean, elegant, and highly customizable WordPress magazine blogging theme developed by ThemesDNA. Designed for bloggers, news publishers, and content-rich websites, GreatWP PRO builds on the responsive 2-column foundation of its free counterpart and introduces an extensive range of advanced features.

The theme comes equipped with 10 different post styles for non-singular pages, a featured posts slider powered by Owl Carousel, a news ticker for breaking news or trending updates, and 17 uniquely designed featured posts widgets to create engaging front-page layouts. It supports WooCommerce for e-commerce integration, offers granular control over colors and fonts through a comprehensive WordPress Customizer panel, and includes multiple layout options (Content + Sidebar, Sidebar + Content, One Column) for both singular and non-singular pages.

Theme Installation

After purchasing the GreatWP PRO WordPress Theme, you'll receive a download link via email. Check your email inbox (or spam folder) for the product delivery email. Click the provided download link to download the theme's .zip file to your computer. Follow one of a method given below to install the theme on your website.

Upgrading from the Free GreatWP Theme?

GreatWP PRO is a separate theme. Whether or not you're currently using the free GreatWP theme, you need to install GreatWP PRO using one of the methods below.

If you're upgrading from the free version, most of your existing WordPress Customizer settings will remain in place. So you don't need to reconfigure everything from scratch. However, you will need to reupload a few images and reapply specific color settings.

After activating GreatWP PRO, go to Appearance → Customize and reupload the following:

Site Logo
Site Icon (favicon)
Header Image
Background Image

If you changed below color options in the free version, reapply them in Appearance → Customize → Theme Options → Colors:

Header Text Color
Background Color

Tip: You can install PRO without deleting the free theme. Use Live Preview to confirm your layout, then click Activate & Publish.

Method 1: Install Using the WordPress Dashboard (Easiest and Fastest)

This is the easiest and fastest method to install this WordPress theme.

Go to "WordPress Dashboard" → "Appearance" → "Themes" and click on "Add New" button.
Click on "Upload Theme" button and choose the zip file you have downloaded.
Click on "Install Now" button.
Activate the theme.
Now go to "Appearance" → "Customize" to configure theme options.

Method 2: Install using cPanel File Manager

In some cases, you may not be able to install a WordPress theme through the WordPress dashboard—especially if the theme's ZIP file exceeds the maximum upload size limit. When this happens, you can install the theme using cPanel's File Manager, which is often simpler than using FTP. Follow the steps below to install your theme via the File Manager in cPanel.

Log in to your cPanel account. Your cPanel URL will be https://yourdomain.com/cpanel or a similar URL.
Click on the "File Manager" icon. It's usually under the "Files" section.

You are now in the "File Manager". Open the public_html folder, which is your website's root directory.
Locate the wp-content folder inside "public_html," then open the themes folder inside of it.
In the File Manager interface, click the "Upload" button and choose the theme's .zip file from your local drive.
After it has been uploaded, right-click the .zip file and choose "Extract" or "Unzip".
You can now delete the uploaded .zip file, but it's optional.
Log in to your WordPress dashboard through your web browser.
Go to Appearance → Themes. Now you will see the newly extracted theme.
Make it your active theme by clicking the "Activate" button next to it.

Note: If your hosting provider doesn't offer cPanel, look for a File Manager option in your hosting dashboard (like DirectAdmin, Plesk, or CyberPanel). The process is usually very similar—just find the wp-content/themes folder and upload/extract the theme ZIP file there.

Method 3: Install using FTP

Installing a WordPress theme via FTP is straightforward, though it involves a few more steps compared to using the built-in theme uploader. Here's how to install a WordPress theme using FTP:

Unzip the theme's .zip file you have downloaded.
Connect to your hosting account using an FTP client such as "FileZilla" or "Core FTP".
Navigate to the /wp-content/themes folder in the "Remote site" section.
In the "Local site" section, locate the unzipped theme folder.
Drag and drop the unzipped theme folder from the "Local site" section to the "Remote site" section.
Be patient and let the transfer finish.
Once the transfer is complete, log in to your WordPress dashboard and navigate to Appearance > Themes.
Find the theme you just uploaded and click Activate.

Troubleshooting Tips

Didn't receive the download email? Wait 5–10 minutes or check your spam/junk folder. But if you still can not find this email or download link is broken, please inform us. we will send it ASAP.
"The uploaded file exceeds the upload_max_filesize directive in php.ini." - If you get this error when following the "Method 1", follow this tutorial: https://themesdna.com/blog/increase-maximum-file-upload-size-wordpress/
My menus disappeared or look different. Go to Appearance → Menus → Manage Locations and reassign your menus to the correct locations.
My header text or background color looks different after activating PRO. Reapply your colors in Appearance → Customize → Theme Options → Colors for Header Text Color and Background Color. Then publish.

Import Demo Content

You can import the demo content, widgets, and Customizer settings shown in the GreatWP PRO theme demo.

Manual Demo Import

Step 1: Import Main Site Content

This includes: Posts, pages, menus, media, categories, tags, comments, and custom fields.

Download: XML File
Go to Tools → Import.
Under "WordPress", click Install Now if not installed.
Click Run Importer.
Select the XML file and click Upload file and import.
Check "Download and import file attachments", click Submit.

Step 2: Import Widgets

Install the Widget Importer & Exporter plugin.
Go to Tools → Widget Importer & Exporter.
Copy content from: Widgets .wie File and paste into the box.
Click Import Widgets.

Step 3: Import Customizer Settings

Download: Customizer File
Install the Customizer Export/Import plugin.
Go to Appearance → Customize → Export/Import.
Select the .dat file, check "Download and import image files?", click Import.

Regenerate Thumbnails

If your website already has existing posts with featured images, it's highly recommended to regenerate thumbnails after activating the GreatWP PRO theme. This ensures that all images match the new theme's layout and display sizes.

Regenerating thumbnails is optional if your site is completely new and doesn't have any uploaded images yet.

However, if you imported the demo content, regenerating thumbnails is essential to display images correctly across the site.

Install and activate the Regenerate Thumbnails plugin.
Go to Tools → Regenerate Thumbnails.
Click the "Regenerate Thumbnails for All x Attachments" button to start the process.
Wait until all images are regenerated. This may take a few minutes depending on your media library size.
If you want, you can deactivate and delete the plugin once the process is complete.

This step ensures clean image alignment and sharp visuals throughout your website using the GreatWP PRO theme.

Header Image

Quick Start Guide

GreatWP PRO supports the built-in WordPress Custom Header. You can set one site-wide header image, and its overlaid title/description come from your site title and tagline.

Header image settings live in: Appearance → Customize → Header Image

How to Add a Header Image?

Go to Appearance → Customize → Header Image
Upload your header image using the Add new image button.

Recommended dimensions: 1050 × 200 pixels (flexible height).

Navigation Menus

This theme includes two Display Locations for menus: Primary Menu and Secondary Menu.

Right after installing the theme, WordPress may display your existing pages as the default menu items in these locations. You can replace them with your own custom menus containing links, categories, pages, and more by following the steps below:

Go to Appearance → Menus and click the create a new menu link.
Enter a name for your menu in the Menu Name field.
Select a display location for your menu by checking one of the available options under Display location
Click the Create Menu button.
To add items to the menu, use the options in the left-hand column—select the pages, posts, categories, or tags you want, then click Add to Menu.
To create dropdown menus, simply drag and nest the submenu items beneath the parent menu item.
Once you've added your links, click the Save Menu button.

News Ticker

The News Ticker displays posts in a smooth, horizontal scrolling format at the top of your site. Fully customizable via the WordPress Theme Customizer.

How to Configure

Go to Appearance → Customize → Theme Options → News Ticker.
Check Enable News Ticker.
Configure options (heading, number of posts, post type, category/tag, duration).
Click Publish.

Tips

Use Category Posts or Tag Posts for automated updates within a topic.
Use Popular Posts to show the most commented posts.
Adjust duration for readability (default: 60000 ms).

Slider

GreatWP PRO includes a built-in posts carousel slider powered by Owl Carousel. It displays featured posts with thumbnails and titles on your homepage.

How to Configure

Go to Appearance → Customize → Theme Options → Slider.
Check Enable Slider.
Configure options (number of posts, post type, category/tag).
Click Publish.

Tips

Make sure posts have featured images for best results.
The slider uses 480×360 thumbnails (4:3 aspect ratio).

Custom Widgets

Quick Start Guide

There are 20 custom widgets bundled with the GreatWP PRO theme. Important: To prevent slowing down your site, widgets must be activated individually before use.

Go to Appearance → Customize → Theme Options → Custom Widgets
Enable the widgets you want to use by checking the corresponding checkboxes.
Click Publish to save.
Then go to Appearance → Widgets and drag the activated widgets into your desired widget areas.

GreatWP Featured Posts Widgets (1–17)

GreatWP PRO includes 17 uniquely designed featured posts widgets, each with a different layout style. These widgets display posts based on recent posts, a selected category, a selected tag, or random posts. Posts can be sorted by number of comments (popular), published date, or random order.

This widget displays a profile section with an image, description, and social media links.

Usage Notes

Custom Page Templates

GreatWP PRO includes 11 custom page and post templates:

Layout Templates

"Full Width, no sidebar" (Page/Post): Displays content in full width without sidebars.
"Full Width, bottom sidebar" (Page/Post): Full width content with a sidebar below it.
"Content + Sidebar 1" (Page/Post): Content on the left, sidebar on the right.
"Sidebar 1 + Content" (Page/Post): Sidebar on the left, content on the right.

Special Function Templates

Contact Form: Creates a contact page with a built-in contact form.
Sitemap: Displays a structured list of your site's content.
Authors: Shows a list of all authors with profiles and post counts.

How to Assign a Custom Template:

Go to Pages or Posts → Add New or edit an existing page/post.
In Gutenberg: click the Page/Post tab in the right sidebar and find Template. In Classic Editor: use the Template dropdown in Page/Post Attributes.
Select the desired template and click Publish or Update.

How to Create a Contact Page

Step 1: Create the Contact Page

Go to Pages → Add New. Give it a title like Contact Us.
Select the Contact Form template.
Click Publish.

Step 2: Configure the Contact Form Email Address

Go to Appearance → Customize → Theme Options → Contact Page.
Enter your email address in the Contact Form Email Address field.
Click Publish.

Note: If you do not set the Contact Form Email Address, the form will not send emails.

How to Create a Sitemap Page

Go to Pages → Add New. Enter a title like Sitemap.
Select the Sitemap template.
Click Publish.

The sitemap includes all Pages, Categories, Tags, Monthly Archives, and Authors.

How to Create a Site Authors Page

Step 1: Create the Authors Page

Go to Pages → Add New. Enter a title like Our Authors.
Select the Authors template.
Click Publish.

Step 2: Customize Author Display (Optional)

Go to Appearance → Customize → Theme Options → Authors Page.
Toggle: Hide site administrators / Hide authors with zero posts.
Click Publish.

Each author's display name, avatar, bio, and social profiles are shown. Set these under Users → Profile.

The theme includes a greatwp-pro.pot file located in the /languages folder inside the theme directory. You can use this file to create translations in your own language using any of the following tools:

After translating, save your files as:

Why is my logo/site icon/header image/background image missing after upgrading to PRO?

When switching from the free to PRO version, you need to manually reupload your Site Logo, Header Image, Site Icon, and Background Image via Appearance → Customize.

My menus disappeared after theme activation. What should I do?

Go to Appearance → Menus → Manage Locations and reassign your existing menus to the correct theme locations.

How do I enable the News Ticker?

Go to Appearance → Customize → Theme Options → News Ticker.
Check Enable News Ticker.
Configure the options and click Publish.

How do I enable the Slider?

Go to Appearance → Customize → Theme Options → Slider.
Check Enable Slider.
Configure the options and click Publish.

How do I activate Custom Widgets?

Post thumbnails are missing when sharing on social media

Install an SEO plugin like Yoast SEO or Rank Math and enable Open Graph tags. Always set a featured image for each post.

I get "The uploaded file exceeds the upload_max_filesize directive" error

Your hosting has a small file upload limit. Follow this guide to increase it or use cPanel/File Manager to upload the theme.

Widgets are not appearing on the site

Make sure the widget is activated first in Appearance → Customize → Theme Options → Custom Widgets, then place it in a widget area via Appearance → Widgets.

Slider or News Ticker not showing

Ensure the feature is enabled in the Customizer and that your posts have featured images (for the slider). Also verify the selected category/tag has published posts.
