Introduction

Thank you for choosing GridMax PRO! This documentation covers everything you need to know to set up and customize your theme.

GridMax PRO is a clean and modern, grid-based WordPress theme designed for blogs, portfolios, grid and creative websites. It features a fully responsive layout, Customizer theme options, multi-level drop-down navigation menus, full-width page/post templates, sticky header and sidebar, 2-column to 10-column grid layouts, custom page and post templates, multiple header styles, multiple footer column layouts, featured posts widgets with AJAX pagination, post and page settings panels, unique header images for posts/pages, news ticker, built-in post likes system, built-in post views counter, infinite scroll, about and social profiles widget, tabbed widget, social share buttons, related posts with thumbnails, and much more.

Quick Start

Install and activate the theme via Appearance → Themes → Add New → Upload Theme.
Go to Appearance → Customize → Theme Options to configure your settings.
Set up your Navigation Menus via Appearance → Menus.
Add Widgets via Appearance → Widgets.

Theme Installation

After purchasing the GridMax PRO WordPress Theme, you'll receive a download link via email. Check your email inbox (or spam folder) for the product delivery email. Click the provided download link to download the theme's .zip file to your computer. Follow one of a method given below to install the theme on your website.

Upgrading from the Free GridMax Theme?

GridMax PRO is a separate theme. Whether or not you're currently using the free GridMax theme, you need to install GridMax PRO using one of the methods below.

If you're upgrading from the free version, most of your existing WordPress Customizer settings will remain in place. So you don't need to reconfigure everything from scratch. However, you will need to reupload a few images and reapply specific color settings.

After activating GridMax PRO, go to Appearance → Customize and reupload the following:

Site Logo
Site Icon (favicon)
Header Image
Background Image

If you changed below color options in the free version, reapply them in Appearance → Customize → Theme Options → Colors:

Header Text Color
Background Color

Tip: You can install PRO without deleting the free theme. Use Live Preview to confirm your layout, then click Activate & Publish.

Method 1: Install Using the WordPress Dashboard (Easiest and Fastest)

This is the easiest and fastest method to install this WordPress theme.

Go to "WordPress Dashboard" → "Appearance" → "Themes" and click on "Add New" button.
Click on "Upload Theme" button and choose the zip file you have downloaded.
Click on "Install Now" button.
Activate the theme.
Now go to "Appearance" → "Customize" to configure theme options.

Method 2: Install using cPanel File Manager

In some cases, you may not be able to install a WordPress theme through the WordPress dashboard—especially if the theme's ZIP file exceeds the maximum upload size limit. When this happens, you can install the theme using cPanel's File Manager, which is often simpler than using FTP. Follow the steps below to install your theme via the File Manager in cPanel.

Log in to your cPanel account. Your cPanel URL will be https://yourdomain.com/cpanel or a similar URL.
Click on the "File Manager" icon. It's usually under the "Files" section.

You are now in the "File Manager". Open the public_html folder, which is your website's root directory.
Locate the wp-content folder inside "public_html," then open the themes folder inside of it.
In the File Manager interface, click the "Upload" button and choose the theme's .zip file from your local drive.
After it has been uploaded, right-click the .zip file and choose "Extract" or "Unzip".
You can now delete the uploaded .zip file, but it's optional.
Log in to your WordPress dashboard through your web browser.
Go to Appearance → Themes. Now you will see the newly extracted theme.
Make it your active theme by clicking the "Activate" button next to it.

Note: If your hosting provider doesn't offer cPanel, look for a File Manager option in your hosting dashboard (like DirectAdmin, Plesk, or CyberPanel). The process is usually very similar—just find the wp-content/themes folder and upload/extract the theme ZIP file there.

Method 3: Install using FTP

Installing a WordPress theme via FTP is straightforward, though it involves a few more steps compared to using the built-in theme uploader. Here's how to install a WordPress theme using FTP:

Unzip the theme's .zip file you have downloaded.
Connect to your hosting account using an FTP client such as "FileZilla" or "Core FTP".
Navigate to the /wp-content/themes folder in the "Remote site" section.
In the "Local site" section, locate the unzipped theme folder.
Drag and drop the unzipped theme folder from the "Local site" section to the "Remote site" section.
Be patient and let the transfer finish.
Once the transfer is complete, log in to your WordPress dashboard and navigate to Appearance > Themes.
Find the theme you just uploaded and click Activate.

Troubleshooting Tips

Didn't receive the download email? Wait 5–10 minutes or check your spam/junk folder. But if you still can not find this email or download link is broken, please inform us. we will send it ASAP.
"The uploaded file exceeds the upload_max_filesize directive in php.ini." - If you get this error when following the "Method 1", follow this tutorial: https://themesdna.com/blog/increase-maximum-file-upload-size-wordpress/
My menus disappeared or look different. Go to Appearance → Menus → Manage Locations and reassign your menus to the correct locations.
My header text or background color looks different after activating PRO. Reapply your colors in Appearance → Customize → Theme Options → Colors for Header Text Color and Background Color. Then publish.

Import Demo Content

You can import the demo content, widgets, and Customizer settings shown in the GridMax PRO theme demo.

Manual Demo Import

Step 1: Import Main Site Content

This includes: Posts, pages, menus, media, categories, tags, comments, and custom fields.

Download: XML File
Go to Tools → Import.
Under "WordPress", click Install Now if not installed.
Click Run Importer.
Select the XML file and click Upload file and import.
Check "Download and import file attachments", click Submit.

Step 2: Import Widgets

Install the Widget Importer & Exporter plugin.
Go to Tools → Widget Importer & Exporter.
Copy content from: Widgets .wie File and paste into the box.
Click Import Widgets.

Step 3: Import Customizer Settings

Download: Customizer File
Install the Customizer Export/Import plugin.
Go to Appearance → Customize → Export/Import.
Select the .dat file, check "Download and import image files?", click Import.

Regenerate Thumbnails

If your website already has existing posts with featured images, it's highly recommended to regenerate thumbnails after activating the GridMax PRO theme. This ensures that all images match the new theme's layout and display sizes.

Regenerating thumbnails is optional if your site is completely new and doesn't have any uploaded images yet.

However, if you imported the demo content, regenerating thumbnails is essential to display images correctly across the site.

Install and activate the Regenerate Thumbnails plugin.
Go to Tools → Regenerate Thumbnails.
Click the "Regenerate Thumbnails for All x Attachments" button to start the process.
Wait until all images are regenerated. This may take a few minutes depending on your media library size.
If you want, you can deactivate and delete the plugin once the process is complete.

This step ensures clean image alignment and sharp visuals throughout your website using the GridMax PRO theme.

Header Image

GridMax PRO supports a custom header image that can be displayed site-wide or on individual posts/pages.

Adding a Site-Wide Header Image

Go to Appearance → Customize → Theme Options → Header Image.
Click Add new image and upload or select an image from your media library.
Click Publish to save your changes.

Adding a Header Image to Individual Posts/Pages

Edit the post or page where you want a unique header image.
Look for the Post Settings – GridMax PRO (or Page Settings – GridMax PRO) meta box below the editor.
Upload a Header Image using the provided field.
Optionally set a custom Header Image Title and Header Image Description.
Click Update or Publish.

Customizing Header Image Display

You can customize the header image further via Appearance → Customize → Theme Options → Header Image:

Hide header image from everywhere
Remove the link from header image
Hide title and/or description
Add custom title/description text
Set a destination URL for the header image link
Control display on smaller screens

Navigation Menus

This theme includes two Display Locations for menus: Primary Menu and Secondary Menu.

Right after installing the theme, WordPress may display your existing pages as the default menu items in these locations. You can replace them with your own custom menus containing links, categories, pages, and more by following the steps below:

Go to Appearance → Menus and click the create a new menu link.
Enter a name for your menu in the Menu Name field.
Select a display location for your menu by checking one of the available options under Display location
Click the Create Menu button.
To add items to the menu, use the options in the left-hand column—select the pages, posts, categories, or tags you want, then click Add to Menu.
To create dropdown menus, simply drag and nest the submenu items beneath the parent menu item.
Once you've added your links, click the Save Menu button.

News Ticker

GridMax PRO includes a built-in news ticker (also known as a "breaking news" bar) that scrolls headlines horizontally across the page.

How to Enable the News Ticker

Go to Appearance → Customize → Theme Options → News Ticker Options.
Check Enable News Ticker.
Configure the ticker settings:
- Location: Before Header, After Header, Before Footer, or After Footer.
- Heading: Custom heading text.
- Number of Posts: How many posts to display.
- Post Type: Recent Posts, Category Posts, Tag Posts, or Posts by IDs.
- Orderby: Published Date, Modified Date, Number of Comments, Random, Post Likes, or Post Views.
- Duration: Scrolling speed in milliseconds.
Click Publish to save your settings.

Custom Widgets

GridMax PRO comes with 5 custom widgets that allow you to display posts and content in various styles:

GridMax Grid Posts Widget — Displays posts in a customizable grid layout.
GridMax List Posts Widget — Displays posts in a list format.
GridMax Tabbed Widget — Displays posts in a tabbed interface with three independent tabs.
GridMax About and Social Widget — Displays a profile/about section with social media links.
GridMax Grid Ads Widget — Inserts advertisements or custom content within post grids.

GridMax Grid Posts Widget

This widget displays posts in a highly customizable grid layout. It is ideal for creating featured content sections, category highlights, or any grid-based post display on your site.

Key Features:

Display posts by recent, category, tag, or specific post IDs
Customizable number of grid columns (1–10)
Multiple thumbnail size options with various aspect ratios
Show/hide post meta: author, date, comments, likes, views, categories
Post snippet display with configurable length
Built-in share buttons
Configurable font sizes for titles, meta, and snippets

Usage Notes: Drag this widget into any of the full-width, above content, below content, top left, or top right widget areas for best results. The grid columns automatically adjust for smaller screens. For consistent grid appearance, choose a fixed-ratio thumbnail size (e.g., 480:360 for 4:3).

GridMax List Posts Widget

This widget displays posts in a list format with thumbnails on the left and post details on the right. It is perfect for sidebar display or any area where a compact list of posts is needed.

GridMax Tabbed Widget

This widget displays posts in a tabbed interface with three independently configurable tabs. Each tab can display different content based on its own settings.

Each tab (Tab 1, Tab 2, Tab 3) has its own set of content options with tab1_, tab2_, and tab3_ prefixes respectively. Options include: Name, Number of Posts, Posts Type, Category, Tag, Posts by IDs, Orderby, Order, and Exclude Posts.

Shared display options include: Date Format, Link Post Titles, Show Thumbnails, Link Thumbnails, Show Author, Show Date, Show Comments, Show Likes, Show Views, Show Snippet, Show Share Buttons, Title Font Size, Meta Font Size, and Snippet Font Size.

GridMax About and Social Widget

This widget displays an about/profile section with a profile image, description text, and extensive social media profile links. It supports over 70 social networks and platforms.

The widget includes fields for a Title, Profile Image URL, Description, and individual URL fields for each social platform (Facebook, X/Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, Pinterest, TikTok, GitHub, and many more). Additional display options include Button Style (Icons Only / Icons with Text), Button Shape (Square / Rounded), and Open Links in New Tab.

GridMax Grid Ads Widget

This widget is designed to insert advertisements or custom content between posts in your posts grid.

Important: Only add "GridMax Grid Ads Widget" into the Grid Ads Widgets widget area. This widget outputs ad code without escaping, so HTML and JavaScript will execute as-is.

Options include: Ad Code (textarea for HTML/JavaScript), Ad Position (display after which post number, default: 3), and Display On (Home Page Only, Home Page and Next Pages, Category Pages, Tag Pages, Author Pages, All Archive Pages, Search Pages, Every Posts Page).

There are 50 widget areas in the GridMax PRO theme.

Header Right Widgets
This widget area is located on the right side of the header of your web page. You can drag and drop a "Custom HTML" widget into this widget area and add your 728×90 banner ad code into that widget. You need to select "Header Layout" as "Logo + Header Banner" from theme options to display this widget area.
Sidebar 1 Widgets
This widget area is located on the left-hand side of your web page.
Sidebar 2 Widgets
This widget area is located on the right-hand side of your web page.

How to Assign a Custom Template

Go to Pages or Posts → Add New or edit an existing page/post.
Look for the Template option:
- In Gutenberg: Click the Page or Post tab in the right sidebar and scroll down to Template.
- In Classic Editor: Enable Page Attributes or Post Attributes via Screen Options, then use the Template dropdown.
Select the desired template and click Publish or Update.

How to Create a Featured Content Page

A Featured Content Page displays featured post widgets instead of the content added via the page editor.

Before creating one, install the Widget Display Conditions plugin.

Step 1: Create the Page

Go to Pages → Add New, give it a title.
Select the Featured Content template.
Click Publish.

Step 2: Add Widgets

Go to Appearance → Widgets.
Use only the following areas to add widgets to your featured content page:
1. Top Full Width Widgets (Everywhere)
2. Above Content Widgets (Everywhere)
3. Top Left Widgets (Everywhere)
4. Top Right Widgets (Everywhere)

How to Create a Contact Page

GridMax PRO includes a built-in Contact Form template.

Step 1: Create the Page

Go to Pages → Add New, title it "Contact Us".
Select the Contact Form template.
Click Publish.

Step 2: Set Email Address

Go to Appearance → Customize → Theme Options → Page Templates Options.
Enter your email in the Contact Form Email Address field.
Click Publish.

Note: If you do not set the Contact Form Email Address, the form will not send emails.

How to Create a Sitemap Page

Go to Pages → Add New, title it "Sitemap".
Select the Sitemap template.
Click Publish.

The sitemap automatically includes all pages, categories, tags, monthly archives, and authors.

How to Create a Site Authors Page

Go to Pages → Add New, title it "Our Authors".
Select the Authors template.
Click Publish.

Customize display in Appearance → Customize → Theme Options → Page Templates Options (hide administrators, hide authors with zero posts).

🌐 Translating the Theme

The theme includes a gridmax-pro.pot file located in the /languages folder inside the theme directory. You can use this file to create translations in your own language using any of the following tools:

Poedit – Desktop translation editor (view tutorial)
Loco Translate – Translate the theme directly from your WordPress dashboard (view tutorial)

After translating, save your files as:

gridmax-pro-[language_code].po
gridmax-pro-[language_code].mo

Place them inside the /languages folder in the theme.

↔️ RTL Language Support

GridMax PRO includes built-in RTL support. If your WordPress site language is set to an RTL language, the theme will automatically adjust layout direction, alignment, and spacing accordingly. No extra setup required.

If you're customizing your site with RTL content, make sure your text widgets, menus, and custom styles are also RTL-compatible for best results.

FAQ

Why is my logo/site icon/header image/background image missing after upgrading to PRO?

When switching from the free to PRO version, you need to manually reupload your Site Logo, Header Image, Site Icon, and Background Image via Appearance → Customize.

My menus disappeared after theme activation. What should I do?

Go to Appearance → Menus → Manage Locations and reassign your existing menus to the correct theme locations.

How to activate the "Load More" navigation for posts?

Go to Appearance → Customize → Theme Options → Post/Posts Navigation Options.
Under Posts Navigation Type, select Load More Button.
Save your changes.

Note: Deactivate the "WP-PageNavi plugin" if you are using it.

How to activate the "Infinite Scroll" navigation for posts?

Go to Appearance → Customize → Theme Options → Post/Posts Navigation Options.
Under Posts Navigation Type, select Infinite Scroll.

Troubleshooting

Post thumbnails are missing when sharing on social media

Install an SEO plugin like Yoast SEO or Rank Math and enable Open Graph tags. Always set a featured image for each post.

I get "The uploaded file exceeds the upload_max_filesize directive" error.

This means your hosting has a small file upload limit. Follow this guide to increase it or use cPanel/File Manager to upload the theme.
